The Outcome-Driven Supply Chain

Steven A. Melnyk

There is a change coming to the manner in which we view supply chains and how they are designed and organized.  This presentation argues that supply chains are organized around a blended mix of six critical outcomes: cost, responsiveness, security, resilience, sustainability and innovation.  Each outcome brings with it certain critical implications for how supply chains are designed and managed.  These findings are based on the 2010 and Beyond Research Initiative completed by the supply chain management group at Michigan State University – a study consisting of over 150 leading edge supply chains and focusing on identifying the future of supply chain management.
