Dr. Abdul-Kader received a Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering from the “Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières,” a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Modeling, from “École Polytechnique de Montréal,” and a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering in the area of Performance Evaluation of Unreliable Manufacturing Systems, from “Université Laval.”  He started his career as Industrial Engineer at Phoenix Steel Products Inc.  He joined Nortel (Northern telecom) as Industrial Engineer for about seven years.  Later, he served as Executive Director at the “Centre québécois pour l’informatisation de la Production,” a non-profit organization created by the government of Quebec.  His mandate was to facilitate the transfer of Computer-Aided Production Technologies from universities and large size companies to small and medium size companies.  His teaching and research interests are related to Simulation of Manufacturing Systems, Facilities Design & Material Handling, Logistics & Distribution, Reverse Logistics, Quality Control, and Performance Evaluation of Manufacturing Systems prone to Failure.  Before joining the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the University of Windsor, he was an Associate Professor in Industrial Systems Engineering at the University of Regina.

Nahid H. Afia is an Associate Professor at Ain Shams University Cairo, Egypt.  Her MSc and PhD were awarded from the same university; she worked on assembly line balancing in her PhD.  Her research interests are assembly line balancing, production scheduling, scheduling of flexible manufacturing systems.  Recently she has started to work in the areas of supply chain design, reverse logistics and reconfigurable manufacturing.

Elizabeth Barber is an academic at the Australian Defence Force Academy at the University of New South Wales located in Canberra, Australia. Elizabeth has researched logistics and supply chain management in the defence industry for the Australian Defence Force for a number of years. She lectures in Performance Based Logistics and Strategic Supply Chain Management. Her research interests in the supply chain industry currently include risk management, performance modeling and collaborative practices.

Larry Berglund draws experience from three decades of buying in the forest industry, public health care, municipal government and university operations. Berglund teaches supply chain management courses, seminars and workshops and has written many articles in this area of expertise. In 2004, his paper on the Price Index was recognized as a key contribution at the McMaster University Supply Chain Symposium. In 2005, his white paper on Sustainable Supply Chain Management Practices won first prize in the practitioner category at McMaster University. Berglund is the author of Food, Finance, and Philosophy: A Role for Supply Management in Corporate Social Responsibility.

Jyotirmoyee Bhattacharjya is a doctoral candidate at The Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies at The University of Sydney. Her PhD thesis focuses on ICT enabled information and knowledge sharing interactions in value networks. Her research background includes both quantitative and qualitative methods. She has a Master in Commerce in Information Systems Management from Curtin University of Technology. Her research has been published in a number of international conference proceedings and journals.

Carlos Bremer is an engineering graduate of São Paulo University – USP, São Carlos campus, majoring in Mechanical Production. On completing a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from USP – São Carlos campus, and a post-doctoral degree from RWTH Aachen – Germany 1997, he worked until 2003 as a researcher and professor, also participating as committee member in the field of Industrial Economy and Cooperation Networks. Professor Sophie D’Amours has a Ph.D. in Engineering Mathematics from the École Polytechnique of Montréal, as well as an M.B.A. and a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Université Laval. She is currently General Director of For@c Research Consortium and a full time researcher. She is full professor in Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Université Laval. She holds a Canada Research Chair in planning sustainable forest networks. Sophie is also co-director of CIRRELT. Her research interests are in collaborative and distributed planning, agent-based decisions support systems, supply chain management and e-business. She applies most of her work to the forest products industry.

Jean-Philippe Demers, is a Director at Robert Lamarre & Associates, Management Consultants. Jean-Philippe has over 10 years of experience in operations management in the field of consumer products, telecommunications and aerospace. He also has significant expertise in production and manufacturing planning, logistics and vendor management. In addition, he participated in and directed several systems implementation for the management of inventory and capacity. He recently led a project to improve the processes for managing raw materials, including the layout redesign of a warehouse to support the consolidation of the raw material of several factories.

He is a Postdoctoral Fellow and a Research Associate at the Research Center for Technology Management at the Sprott School of Business. He has 14 yeas of industrial experience in various managerial positions. GCRL has recently been awarded the Price of Excellence for Service and Distribution companies by the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Montreal South Shore, the third most important business group in Quebec. Mr. Lamarre has more than 25 years of Supply Chain experience. He has lead consulting projects in Supply Chain improvements with 35 of the 50 largest organizations in Quebec. He has solid experience outside of Quebec having worked numerous times in Ontario as well as in the Maritimes. He managed a number of large projects in the United States, Europe, the Caribbean’s and South America. In the past, he has also held the position of VP Supply Chain at Rona, and Deputy Managing Director at McCain Alimentaire in France. Paul D. Larson, Ph.D., P.Log. is the CN Professor of Supply Chain Management at the University of Manitoba, Asper School of Business. He is Head of the SCM Department and Director of the Transport Institute. Dr. Larson earned BSB and MBA degrees at the University of Minnesota, and his Ph.D. at the University of Oklahoma. In between BSB and MBA programs, from 1979 to 1981, he worked with the Ministry of Cooperatives in Fiji. The Institute for Supply Management (ISM), formerly the National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM), funded Dr. Larson’s doctoral dissertation, which won the 1991 Academy of Marketing Science/ Alpha Kappa Psi award. From 1990 to 1996, he taught marketing and retailing at the University of Alberta, chairing several doctoral dissertations. After that, Professor Larson taught purchasing, logistics and SCM at the University of Nevada from 1996 to 2001 and at Iowa State University from 2001 to 2004. Paul has published nearly 50 articles in leading SCM journals, and has made numerous presentations at academic and practitioner conferences. He has consulted and conducted executive seminars, in Europe, North and South America, Australia, the Caribbean and China, on logistics, purchasing and SCM. Dr. Larson serves on the Editorial Review Boards of the Journal of Supply Chain Management and International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management. He is a former Associate Editor of the Journal of Business Logistics. His current research interests include the analysis of transportation cost, service and sustainability; inland ports; supply chain risk management; not-for-profit (NFP) supply chains; and humanitarian logistics.

Kayvan is a PhD Candidate and research associate with Sprott School of Business and teaches at Carleton University. His recent book chapter titled “E-Marketplaces: Taxonomy of the New Collaborative Information Platform” was recently published by Information Science Reference (IGI). Kayvan’s academic research record includes over 40 refereed publications in journals, book chapters and proceedings.

Dr. Bharat Maheshwari is an Assistant Professor in the Management Information Systems area at the Odette School of Business. He is an author/coauthor of several peer-reviewed articles. Bharat has over fourteen years of experience in the areas of Information Systems and Operations Management. He has lead engineering and management teams in industry and academics. He has served as the chair of the operations management division at the 2007 ASAC conference and is currently serving as a divisional officer in the Technology and Innovation management division of ASAC. He has completed numerous studies on issues and challenges facing organizations in adopting, implementing, and institutionalizing ERP systems, which have been published in prestigious journals in the area.

Alexandra Pereira Klen received her Ph.D. degree in Manufacturing Automation from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil, in 1996 after working from 1991 to 1994 at BIBA (Bremen Institute of Industrial Technology and Applied Work Science at the University of Bremen) in Germany as a guest researcher. She has post-doctoral degrees from BIBA (1997) and from Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain (2007). She is co-founder of GSIGMA (Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Group, at UFSC) and her main areas of interest include collaborative networks in general, and value chain management in particular. She has written articles for publication in a number of conference proceedings, journals, book chapters and technical reports. She has also served as evaluator and rapporteur in European Commission (EC) evaluations, as reviewer of EC-IST projects as well as broker for the @LIS Programme (Alliance for the Information Society). She is currently the innovation manager of Axia Consulting.

Ryan Persad, National Manager, Purolator Global Supply Chain Services
With more than 22 years experience in transportation logistics and global supply chains, Ryan Persad brings extensive industry knowledge to employers and customers. In his current role as National Manager, Global Supply Chain for Purolator Courier, Persad develops innovative solutions to address customers’ logistics and transportation issues.  Widely recognized for his ability to think outside the box, Ryan has worked with a broad range of customers including Whirlpool (Maytag), Starbucks, Chrisco Hampers, Nike, Canadian Tire, and Wells Fargo.
Prior to joining Purolator, Persad lent his expertise as a transportation and logistics consultant where he worked with clients including UPS, DHL and Lynden Logistics.  Previously, he worked with Lynden Air Freight and during his more than 10 years with the company he held a variety of senior and international positions, which gave him a deep understanding of the specific needs of different geographic regions.
As a leader and mentor who recognizes the value of ongoing education and training, Persad attended the University of Manitoba, and has secured ongoing industry certification including IATA Dangerous Good Instructor, Project Management Professional from York University, and Professional Logistician from the Logistics Institute.
 

Francisco Pinheiro, Samarco Mineração S.A., franciscop@samarco.com
Graduated in Metallurgical Engineering from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil), he is CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) by APICS. Mr. Pinheiro has been working for Samarco for seven years and he was in charge of the S&OP process revitalization project. He is currently the S&OP Manager at Samarco.

Professor Mikael Rönnqvist has a Ph.D. in Optimization from Linköping University, Sweden. He teaches operations research and supply chain management at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration in Bergen and part-time at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. His research interests are in the areas of industrial and practical use of Operations Research, in particular in the forest industry. He has been involved in the development of many industrial decision support systems based on optimization in the areas of scheduling, routing, production planning cutting and process control.

Mohammed Shaik is a PhD student at University of Windsor, Windsor, Canada.  He received his Master degree from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor degree from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India in Mechanical Engineering with Production engineering as specialization. He has worked in the supply chain management in automobile, power generation and oil industrial sectors. He was also involved in ERP and Performance Management systems implementation. His research interests include manufacturing systems, reverse logistics, supply chain management, performance measurement and management information systems.

Vedmani Sharan
Vedmani Sharan is a 2nd year full-time Ph.D. student at the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University. His research interests span from supply chain management to electronic governement. He is also interested in the areas of technology management and information systems. He brings a lot of experience in these fields having worked in the IT sector in India for almost five years. He mingles his experience in the professional world with his experience in the academic world to explore the potential of complex business and social phenomena. He has published a book chapter and five peer-review conference proceedings till now.

Sandeep Sood, Legget and Platt
Sandeep Sood is a Senior Buyer with Leggett & Platt, Inc. He has over 13 years of experience in Supply Chain Management. He has been a functional lead in ERP implementation projects in three large firms: Hewlett Packard, Air Tel, and Hero Honda. Sandeep is a mechanical engineer and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Materials Management. He is also a certified C.P.P from PMAC and C.P.M. from ISM.

May Tajima received her PhD in Management Sciences from University of Waterloo. Before joining her current academic position, she has worked as a supply chain analyst. At present, she is an Assistant Professor of Operations Management in Management and Organizational Studies Program at the University of Western Ontario. She teaches and coordinates an undergraduate operations management course, which enrolls over 500 students a year. Her research interests are in the area of supply chain management. She currently focuses on the role of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in the management of the supply chains.

Louis-Paul Tardif, Transport Canada
Louis-Paul Tardif is Director Economic Analysis and Research, Policy Branch at Transport Canada. His work at Transport Canada has included the development of performance indicators of transportation modes in Canada. He was the Principal in his own consulting firm L-P Tardif & Associates Inc. He held various positions including Director General with the Canadian Trucking Alliance. He also worked at the Quebec Ministry of Transport and the Canadian Transport Commission. He holds a Bachelor degree in geography from Université Laval, a Master of Arts in geography with a specialisation in transport from York University and is a Ph. D candidate at Ottawa University.

Her papers have also been published as proceedings at different conferences such as Decision Science Institute and International Symposium and Workshop on Global Supply Chain Management. Her research interests are in technology management, supply chain management, and service supply chain.

Trent Tucker is a part-time PhD student in management science at the University of Waterloo. His soon-to-be-completed PhD thesis is entitled “Supply Chain Orientation – refining a nascent construct.” In addition to his UW research, he is a full-time Lecturer in the Operations & Decision Sciences area of Wilfrid Laurier University’s School of Business & Economics. Before becoming an academic, he spent 15 years in industry working in distribution at Imperial Oil, supply chain at Methanex, consulting to the natural gas industry with HATCH, and managing information systems at Schneider Foods.

David Walters BA (Alberta), MSc (Bradford), PhD (Cranfield) is Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies, University of Sydney.  Previously he was Professor of Management (Business Systems) and Director of the Australasian Centre for Value Chain Management in the School of Management, University of Western Sydney.  Prior to joining UWS he was head of the Business Studies Department in the Division of Economic and Financial Studies at Macquarie University.  He has held posts at Cranfield School of Management, Templeton College Oxford, Stirling University and The European Business School.  He has published a number of textbooks in business and marketing subjects, the most recent “Strategic Operations Management: a Value Chain Approach” was published in 2007.  In addition he has published over 30 articles in professional journals.  He is the Australasian editor for the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management. David Walters has teaching experience in a wide range of continents including North America, The Middle East, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
In addition to his wide teaching experience he has acted as a consultant for a number of international companies.  These include: BOC, CSR, Harrods, Laura Ashley, The Kingfisher Group, Storehouse, British Oxygen Company, Marks and Spencer, Tesco and a number of others.
